Yarn: I used Queensland Uruguay Chunky (brown) and Novita Mambo (green), but any bulky weight wool yarn will likely do
Gauge: 13-14 sts and about 20 rows = 10 cm or 4 '' on bigger needles
Size: ladies'
Needles: 5,5 mm and 6 mm / US 9 and 10, or any that give you the gauge
Note: the mittens are knitted in the round using four dpns. The stitch pattern comes from Lesley Stanfield's book The New Knitting Stitch Library and has been modified for knitting in the round.

Right hand mitten: Using smaller dpns, loosely cast on 30 sts and divide them on 3 needles - 15-7-8-sts a needle. The sts on the first needle will form the back of the hand and those on the 2nd and 3rd needles will become the palm.
1st rnd: k1, rep chart row 1 once (13 sts), k1, *p1, k1 tbl* 7 times, p1
Rep 1st rnd 13 more times or till you think the cuff is long enough.
Switch to bigger needles and begin knitting according to the chart with the 13 middle sts of the 1st needle, beginning with chart row 1. In future, keep the outermost sts of needle 1 and the sts on needles 2 and 3 in St st.
Begin the thumb gusset increases when you've knitted 3 rnds with the bigger needles. Knit sts on 1st needle as usual. In the beg of 2nd needle k1, m1, k2, m1, knit to end of rnd. Work two rounds. In the beg of 2nd needle k1, m1, k4, m1, knit to end of rnd. Work two more rnds. In the beg of 2nd needle k1, then slip next 6 sts on scrap yarn or a yarn holder and let them wait, cast on 2 sts and knit to end of rnd.
Keep working the 13 middle stitches of needle 1 according to the chart and the rem sts in St st until the mitten almost reaches the tip of your forefinger, ending with chart rnd 4.
The decreases are done each rnd in the beg and end of 1st needle, in the beg of 2nd and in the end of 3rd needle. Always make a ssk decrease in the beg of 2nd rnd and a k2tog decrease in the end of 3rd rnd.
1st rnd: on needle 1, ssk, p2, k2, p1, k1, p1, k2, p2, k2tog
2nd rnd: on needle 1, ssk, k2, p2, k1, p2, k2, k2tog
3rd rnd: on needle 1, ssk, p2, k3, p2, k2tog
4th rnd: on needle 1, ssk, k5, k2tog
5th rnd: on needle 1, ssk, p1, k1, p1, k2tog
Drag yarn through rem 10 sts and pull tight.
Pick up the 6 sts you left waiting on the scrap yarn and place them on one needle. Pick up 6 more sts above and around the thumb hole and divide them on 2 needles, 3 sts on each. Keep knitting these 12 sts in the round until your thumb is nearly covered. In next rnd, *ssk, k2, k2tog* twice and after that, *ssk, k2tog* twice. Drag yarn through rem 4 sts and pull tight. Left hand mitten: work just like the right hand one, just make the thumb gusset in the end of 3rd round, 1 st from the end of rnd. In the end, weave in yarn ends and report your mittens here!
If you find any unlogical stuff or errors in the patterns, please inform me. I'm happy to answer questions. Also any sort of feedback would be great, because this was my first time writing a pattern and it was a totally new and stirring experience :P
